What this is

SubnetLayer teaches computer networking using simulated packet traces. It is educational material, not a diagnostic tool and not a source of operational advice for a production network. The simulations are deliberate simplifications, and each module states what it does and does not model.

The cryptography is illustrative

The TLS and HTTPS material shows the SHAPE of a handshake using placeholder values. No real cryptography is performed, no key here provides any security, and nothing produced by this site should be used to protect anything.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself, and use an address you can actually receive mail at — password resets have no other route. You are responsible for what happens under your account. We may suspend an account being used to attack the service or other users.

Availability

This is offered as-is, with no guarantee of uptime and no warranty. Your progress is backed up on our side, but keep nothing here that you could not stand to lose.

Ending it

Delete your account whenever you like from your account page. See the privacy policy for what that removes.
